TrustVendor vs UpGuard

UpGuard bolts questionnaire workflows onto an external scanning engine, targeting mid-market security and procurement teams.

Where UpGuard is strong

Good questionnaire template library and reporting; surface-level scanning is competent.

Where it falls short

Questionnaire fatigue is endemic. No automated reading of vendor-published documents. The score is still external-hygiene-first, not evidence-first.

How TrustVendor differs

Dimension TrustVendor
Evidence citation Span-level citation into a hashed, sha256-verified snapshot
Decay model Explicit half-life per evidence type, shown in UI
Per-relationship scoring Residual risk is a function of your data classes, not just the vendor
Natural-language search Portfolio queries in plain English
API-first distribution Vendor Pulse API with per-vendor pricing
Coexistence support Ingest your Bitsight/SSC score as a signal
Entity resolution Deterministic confidence score, dispute endpoint
Freshness indicator Days since last observation, per evidence category

Common questions

Should I replace UpGuard with TrustVendor?
For most organizations, the answer is no — at least not initially. UpGuard's workflow features complement TrustVendor's evidence layer. The fastest sale is coexistence: keep UpGuard for what it does well, add TrustVendor for document-based evidence, change detection, and relationship-aware scoring. Many customers run both.
How does TrustVendor handle the same vendors UpGuard already rates?
TrustVendor monitors the same vendor population through a different signal set: trust centres, subprocessor pages, SOC 2 reports, SEC filings, CT logs, and regulatory disclosures. Where UpGuard asks "what does this vendor's internet footprint look like?", TrustVendor asks "what does this vendor claim in writing, is it backed by evidence, and what changed?" Both questions matter.
Can TrustVendor ingest my UpGuard data?
Yes. TrustVendor accepts external scores as signals, so your UpGuard rating appears alongside TrustVendor's posture and assurance scores as one of many inputs. This means the score you already pay for becomes part of a richer picture rather than being abandoned.
